Recreational boating safety improvements
Maritime Safety Queensland is introducing reforms to improve boating safety. These reforms are in response to feedback from consultation, coronial recommendations and changes in recreational boating trends.
The reforms include:
- Introducing licensing and operational improvements to lessen the chance of a marine incident.
- Safety equipment improvements to increase the chance of surviving a marine incident.
- Several minor miscellaneous improvements.
The Recreational Boating Safety Improvements Report (PDF, 267 KB) outlines in detail the improvements that are going to be made to current boating safety requirements.
Changes – 1 January 2012
The first round of boating safety improvements will apply from 1 January 2012. The changes are outlined in the Marine Information Bulletin: Boating safety improvements (PDF, 42 KB).
Also from 1 January 2012, Maritime Safety Queensland will recognise some overseas boat licences for use in Queensland. Find out which overseas licences will be recognised.
