Two weeks left for comment on Maroochy River final report

Sunshine Coast residents still have two weeks for a say on a final report recommending marine safety improvements to the Maroochy River system.

Maritime Safety Queensland released a discussion paper for ship operations and activities on the Maroochy River system in 2009.

The paper proposed a number of recommendations for this increasingly popular waterway on topics including speed limits and water skiing activities.

There was considerable public response generated by the discussion paper which included written comments and submissions which formed the final report.

More than 50 recommendations for a better marine safety system are included in the final report which closes for public comment on Monday February 13.

High on the list of recommendations are new speed limits for the Maroochy River near Brown’s Rocks and Cook Road, as well as speed limits and water skiing prohibitions on Eudlo Creek.

Sunshine Coast Regional Council has also expressed interest in decisions arising out of the report as part of its marine zone project.

The most important comments are from the people who will benefit most from the improvements – residents of the Sunshine Coast.
