Marine pollution response training
Response to marine pollution, including spills of oil and other noxious and hazardous substances, is a job that should only be attempted by trained professionals.
The training requirements for professional marine pollution responders are those that are outlined in the Inter-Governmental Agreement on Australia’s National Plan to Combat Pollution of the Sea by Oil and other Noxious and Hazardous Substances (National Plan IGA) and those approved by the National Plan Management Committee.
Under the current arrangements the Queensland Government, acting through Maritime Safety Queensland, provides level 1 training for operations, logistics, finance and administration personnel whose job involves participation in marine pollution response operations.
Further information on the training is available from the Marine Pollution Response Training Program (PDF, 110 KB). (Please note that the training provided by Maritime Safety Queensland is available only to people employed within a government or industry organisation.)
Training for middle (level 2) and senior (level 3) management personnel who have a role to play in marine pollution response is provided by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority – known as National Plan training. Find out more information about National Plan training.
