Port Procedures and Information for Shipping – Abbot Point
The port of Abbot Point, situated 25 km north of Bowen, is owned by North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation and operated by Abbot Point Bulk Coal, a subsidiary company of Xstrata Coal. Annual capacity for the port is currently 15 million tonnes per annum with further expansions that commenced in 2008.
The port has one off-shore berth serviced by a conveyor system 2.75 km from the stockpiles and a ship loader with a loading rate of 4600 tonnes per hour.
