Broadwater Community Reference Group appointed

Further action on the Broadwater is a step closer with membership of the new Broadwater Community Reference Group (BCRG) announced by Maritime Safety Queensland and the Gold Coast City Council.

The nine members of the BCRG will play a vital role in the development of a masterplan focussed on the Gold Coast Broadwater’s sustainability.

The $1.5 million masterplan is being jointly funded by the State Government and the Gold Coast City Council, and the establishment of the committee is the latest step in its development.

The chosen members provide an excellent breadth of local knowledge and experience which will help ensure the masterplan is comprehensive, representative of community interests and will help secure the long-term environmental and economic future of the Broadwater.

The reference group includes members from the environment, marine, property, tourism and other locally important sectors representing the community’s interests.

The reference group chair is Professor Paul Burton.

The group will provide an important link between the Gold Coast Waterways Steering Committee and the community, to gather information and draw on community discussion to inform the development of the masterplan.

There were still many opportunities for the broader community to participate in the project.

Community engagement activities that will be announced through the project website and in local newspapers and include:

  • public meetings and forums in and around the Broadwater area
  • opportunities to provide written submissions on draft planning proposals.
