Nominations called for Broadwater Community Reference Group

People power will underpin the development of a $1.5 million masterplan to oversee development and management of the Gold Coast Broadwater.

The proposed Broadwater Masterplan will provide a definitive guide for waterway and land use management and development from Paradise Point to Southport.

Nominations are now being called to form a Broadwater Community Reference Group, which will be at the heart of the project’s community engagement activities.

The people’s forum will provide an important link between the Gold Coast Waterways Steering Committee (WSC) and the community, to gather information and draw on discussion to inform the development of the Broadwater Masterplan.

Nominations for a place in the community reference group by interested stakeholders and community organisations are being invited for selection by the WSC.

Nominations for the reference group should be submitted no later than 16 December 2011.

The starting point for the planning process will be to evaluate and consolidate on past recommendations which will also give the community reference group ideas and opportunities.

The masterplan will consider:

  • infrastructure and commercial development opportunities
  • recreational and commercial boating demand
  • environmental issues including links with the Moreton Bay Marine Park
  • local amenity issues.
